Bokeh Snowman | Watercolor Weekend | Art Impressions

It’s amazing that we aren’t yet to Thanksgiving, yet we already have snow! Yippee!  I chose to do a really simple snowman and sleigh using the new Snowman Christmas set from the Watercolor Journal.  I am obsessed with the Bokeh technique.

To create my Bokeh snowman, I inked her up in 569 and 969 and stamped it into the right hand corner of the watercolor paper.  I pulled the color out of the lines.

I added some additional color from my palette to color the snowman.  I colored each of the presents.

For the background, I taped off around the snowman. Next, I added a light yellow color wash and picked up some of the color. Once it dried I did some negative painting to create some of the circles.

I find that picking up color sometimes scrubs away the paper.  I kept adding greens, blues and yellows.  I continued until I was happy with the background (TIP:  LET IT DRY)  Don’t go too far.  Step away and see what emerges, you can always try to lift more color later if you need to. Once it is dry, you can add some 569 below the snowman.

This was such a fun project.  I will be working on my Christmas Cards this weekend so make sure you check out my Instagram and Facebook pages. I hope you have a great weekend, thanks for stopping by!
