So Very Grateful Flip Card | Art Impressions Watercolor Stamps & Dies

So Very Grateful

I am so excited to share with you a new die from Art Impressions.  The die cuts a Flip Card that is so unique.  I love that you can put a message on the front and when you open it the message inside flips down.  I created this so Very Grateful card to show you how you can use this with the Flip Card stamps that are available or you can use your watercolor stamps.  You know me, I am always looking for ways to stretch my supplies.

So Very GratefulSo Very Grateful

Step 1:

Cut a piece of watercolor paper down to 6.5 x 5.5.  Next, use the AI Flip card die to die cut the flap.

THE FRONT:

Step 2:

Ink the palm tree trunks with 969-Chocolate.  Stamp the first tree at the bottom right hand side of the card.  Without inking the stamp again, stamp another tree behind and to the right of the trunk you just stamped.

Re-ink the trunk and repeat the same process on the left side of the card.  Dip your brush in water, pinch it off and pull color out of the lines on the left (for trees on left) and (for trees on the right) of the trunks.  This assumes your light source is in the middle.  Drag some of the color around the bottoms of the trees.

Step 3:

Ink up the large palm leaves with Hunter Green, stamp them around the tops of the trees.  Remember, you don’t have to ink the entire stamp.  Stamp it a couple of times to get depth.  I had better results when I stamped the leaves for the trees in the back first.  I think when I do these again, I would stamp those off first to allow the tree in the front to be more prominent.

Step 4:

Add sand by layering 912-Pale Cherry, 873-Coral and 942-Tan along with the Chocolate.  Pick up your first color and lay it down using brush strokes, remembering to leave white space. Next, add additional colors to the sand in the same way.   Add darker shadows underneath the trees.

Blend the colors using clean water, being careful to maintain your white areas.  If you lose white highlights, don’t panic, you can add them back in with a white gel pen.

Step 5:

Add Blue to your palette and add water to get a really light wash to begin. Just like the sand, to create the water use long brush strokes and slowly build up color while maintaining white highlights.  Continue to add color to get darker areas.  Don’t stress about this, this is the relaxing part of the process!

Step 6:

Ink the double palm trees with the chocolate and hunter green and stamp it just above the horizon line where your water is.  Using the same colors that you used for the sand, add your lightest to darkest around the bottom of the trees to create a sort of island in the water.  Place your darkest shadows along the back of the island.

Step 7:

Using a MISTI or an acrylic block, stamp your sentiment on the top flap.  I used a sentiment stamp set from WPLUS9.  I placed the So Very and Grateful in the MISTI and inked it with Gina K Amalgam Ink.

THE INSIDE:

I stamped the beach ball inked with Chocolate and stamped it.  I masked it off and stamped the pail next to it also inked in Chocolate.  I pulled the color out of the lines and added some of the same colors that I used in the water to highlight the ball.  I added some sand underneath and some additional water to the inside.  I was going for a look like they were sitting next to the edge of the water.

I stamped the FOR YOU on the inside flap using the same WPLUS9 sentiment set.
